Jedi Master

An SMS conversation with Leonard, my senior and the HO who guided me through Med SIP -
leonard:
hey Joanna, all the best for the last stretch : ). Didn’t know you’re a star wars fan too ;- )
[I replied thanks and that he must be looking forward to the end of HO life!]
leonard:
Yep i am, in [...]

Had my Surgery clinical exam yesterday. It went comparatively well – thank God actually, but it was impossible to tell if I had passed or straight-failed. I know how I performed (not smooth but possibly passable), it’s really entirely up to the examiners to decide whether it’s passable, or just not good enough. For the [...]

Paul’s eye problem??

Yesterday I went to watch ‘Amplitude’ with some friends from VCF, including L, whom I’ve known has been facing the problem of impaired vision after being diagnosed with glaucoma earlier this academic year. This was the first time he talked to me about it, though. Thank God his condition is stable, but it’s left him [...]

Annoying MCQ questions

Didn’t bother practising more than 1 year’s MCQs beforehand because after the Surgery MCQs last week, I felt that practising past years’ papers isn’t worth it. (and I guess I was justified…) After today’s paper, came back, slept, had lunch, had quiet time, relaxed a bit, and I’m supposed to be studying more useful things [...]

Back on Track

Dreams

I guess many of the things that are important to me belong to the realm of dreams, imagination, ideals, abstract thought, of stories and poetry – things that cannot be conveyed in plain English but only through books and movies and poetry.
To ask me to explain and defend them in exposition rather than in narrative [...]

Character Candy

Dawn has diagnosed my susceptibility to fictional characters as “character candy”, the equivalent of “eye candy” that most girls talk about. And she’s right, I guess.
The only type of candy that Dawn is partial to is actual candy made of sucrose and fructose, which I suppose I might term “stomach candy”.

WHAAT???!!
There is a new book out by someone who is neither Aaron Allston nor Mike Stackpole which has Wes and Hobbie in it!!
One more book to track down and read after MBBS.
And I am AMAZED, simply AMAZED, at the people who write the characters’ biographies on Wookiepedia. Check out Hobbie’s biography here. Look at the [...]

Star Wars Kids names

Recently, a good friend directed my attention to these two sites, which I did indeed find extremely entertaining (and enlightening besides): stuffchristianslike and 97secondswithGod. They’re by the same author.
I was particularly amused by this post, about secretly wanting to name your kid after LOTR characters. I read all the comments and nearly laughed myself into [...]
